Checking never expire in s3 source settings doesnt work

I checked never expire (but didn’t change the default of 3 hours for expireation)
And then I changed refresh frequency to 9 hours.

What this resulted in is when new sources were created that had 3 hour expiration and 9 hour refresh frequency. This was causing sources built with default settings to expire before they were refreshed.

The “never refresh” and "never expire only work for default settings. So your screen should look like below

If any of these values have changed, the 2 checkboxes would not work

Are you saying different from the configured default for the source or different from some other default?
