Unable to add source using Rest Source API

Hi Team,

I am able to add source using UI but with Rest API gets ‘Something went wrong’ error. In server.log null pointer exception is logged

Code:

postgreSourceParam = {
“username”: “”,
“password”: “”,
“hostname”: “<postgresql_host>”,
“port”: “”,
“authenticationType”: “MASTER”,
“fetchSize”: 10,
“databaseName”: “”
}
postResp = apiPost(‘http://<dremio_server>:9047’,‘source’,headers, body=postgreSourceParam)

def apiPost(dremioServer, endpoint, headers, body=None):
text = requests.post(‘{server}/api/v3/{endpoint}’.format(server=dremioServer, endpoint=endpoint), headers=headers, data=json.dumps(body)).text

if (text):
return json.loads(text)
else:
return None

Below are log messages (server.log) :

Same error with HDFS source as well.
Please let me know how to resolve it. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Here is an example of how to add a source (Postgress in this case, just like your example). We use the new catalog API here (but this would also work on the source API, but the catalog is a more general way of creating sources/spaces/datasets etc):

POST http://localhost:9047/api/v3/catalog/

{
	"entityType": "source",
	"type": "POSTGRES",
	"name": "postgres",
	"config": {
		"hostname": "<HOST_NAME>",
		"port": "5432",
		"databaseName": "<DB_NAME>",
		"username": "<USER_NAME>",
		"password": "<PASSWORD>",
		"authenticationType": "MASTER"
	}
}

I believe the confusion is that you have to wrap the config with some extra metadata (like the type and the name) so we know what type of source you are trying to create.

Thanks @doron for your response. It worked by mapping suggested parameters.
